Break-free-in-me?

Each day we learn from our experiences and we discover more about what is real and what we make up as we go along. Whether we are willing to claim it or not, we are all passionate about something. I have wondered what would happen if I were to let what God has placed on the inside to actually break-free-in-me — passion, gifts, desire, compassion, thoughts, energy, hopes, dreams, failures, talents, ideas, fear, love, Christ...

And I got to thinking... What if I were to actually let Jesus be me? Strange?

These are uncomfortable questions to ponder... Think of inside-out like this: becoming more comfortable with feeling uncomfortable.

With each step of faith we take our walk becomes as natural as the air we breathe. We certainly can't be Jesus (impossible!), but we can allow Jesus to be us -- We can allow what God is doing on the inside to emerge out. My prayer is that I would get out of God's way and allow Christ to break-free-in-me.

Discover, claim, and live...

Reflections @FaithWalk!

This past weekend was a great time to be at FaithWalk. I thought I would start sharing a brief hit list of reflections on the latest activities, ministry and worship each week. There’s lots happening and if you miss a week, it’s easy to feel out of the loop!

So here are some brief reflective thoughts about the latest @FaithWalk

  • Yesterday was an amazing day of worship… We had great music and lots of energy as we presented week 2 of our “Escaping UP!” series. My talk was Part 2: “Escaping Distractions,” which was jump started with a clip from the Disney/PIXAR movie, “UP” -- where Carl and Russell encounter Doug the dog for the very first time!
  • The moral? Watch out! Because you never know when you might get hit in the head with a squirrel!! (frozen or otherwise!) This is an inside joke for all those who were in attendance Sunday!
  • I had a lot of fun yesterday during the message… Not that I don’t always… Just yesterday was a lot of fun and energizing in a weird sort of way. Maybe it was the huge bunch of helium balloons on the stage (more than last week!)
  • My text for the message was Hebrews 12:1-4. READ IT! If you want to escape distractions in your life, this text provides some serious direction…
  • Our Children’s worship completed their last week of KIDMO-enhance Tales from the Trails, in the last session of “Knight of the Rectangle!” They learned about what it means to be humble… Something we can all benefit from!
  • Last night was really special… Our evening worship is FAITHREMIX, which looks NOTHING like Sunday mornings, and is geared to emerging generations. Bryant Hodges, our worship leader for this ministry, led our music, and was truly a lead worshipper in every sense of the description…
  • This was week 2 in our current series, “Beautiful Chaos” for FAITHREMIX, with the topic of “Luggage.” The series is being enhanced with Rob Bell’s NOOMA videos and yesterday’s topic hit home for all in attendance…
  • McKinley Greer, our Duke ministry intern, did a great job in the reflection talk of FAITHREMIX and we had a great time of optional discussion after the gathering was officially over. This ministry is really starting to take shape and there are a growing number of young adults getting on board… If you have not experienced FAITHREMIX check it out soon!
  • We will be having our first concert promoted by FAITHREMIX, on Sunday, August 30th @ 7:30PM, featuring 5 bands/artists -- The Forever Endeavor, RITK, Ailyne, Surviving the Silence, and more! Doors open @ 7PM with a $5 cover charge. Don’t miss it!
  • Saturday morning was breakfast with the Watchmen (our men’s group). I went for a run early Saturday before the breakfast and afterwards I felt like I needed to go on another run! Food was awesome and our devotion and discussion time was dead on… Next breakfast for the Watchmen will be Saturday, September 12th @ 8AM!
  • And this past week we got a great start on our trail system in our back woods!!! (behind the building) This is going to be awesome! Currently there are three trails cut, which will be used for our children’s ministry, Tales from the Trails, during spring, summer, and early fall. Additionally these trails will be great for prayer walks! Still lots of work left, but it’s going to be awesome!
  • Learned this past week that it looks like we are only about 3 weeks out from our building permit and the start of construction on our coffeehouse expansion and our youth room upstairs!!! This is very exiting and going to add to our ministry in exponential ways! I can’t wait!!!
  • Lives are being transformed @ FaithWalk… God is doing some amazing work! As summer draws to a close, get reconnected! If you have never been to FaithWalk, come join in and check it out! We would love to have you!
